Jazz for Lovers contains 14 tracks comprised of romantic standards. While short on improvising or energetic interludes, this is a decent budget-line set that combines legends like Louis Armstrong, Chet Baker, and Sarah Vaughan with less than obvious inclusions by Nancy Harrow, Roy Williams, and Rickey Woodard. For those who appreciate jazz as romantic or soothing background music, this disc will do the trick. Keep in mind there are similar compilations that achieve the same results with a more consistent artist lineup, including Jazz for Lovers on Prestige and Jazz for the Quiet Times or Jazz for Those Peaceful Moments, the latter two available on 32 Jazz.
