AllMusic Review by

This Sandy Hook LP compiles various soundtracks from film shorts, documentaries, and feature films with big bands led by either Buddy Rich or Gene Krupa. The six selections led by Rich have superior sound. They also showcase not only the leader's drums solos, but his singing and tap dancing, both of which are also quite good. Vibraphonist Terry Gibbs and tenor saxophonist Allen Eager shine in the solo spotlight, though none of the songs are particularly memorable.

The Krupa tracks are a bit more uneven. Poor sound plagues the first four songs, while none of the solos within them is all that distinctive. Better are the two selections from the biopic The Gene Krupa Story (starring Sal Mineo), though the music is taken straight from the soundtrack, with overdubbed audience noise and dialogue. As a result, this out of print collector's item will primarily be of interest to fans of Buddy Rich, though it is hardly an essential acquisition for most jazz fans.
