AllMusic Review by

Of all of the posthumous reissues of the Japanese avant- garde saxophonist recordings, there are few from the early '70s as notable as his sparing duo with drummer Hiroshi Yamazaki. Free Jazz fans will find this astounding -- put next to the great free duo recordings John Coltrane's Interstellar Space and Don Cherry's MU Part One, the levels of intensity reached in this all-out rampage of rule-less free jazz are equally as astounding as either recording. The fact that this Japanese artist lived in absolute obscurity and had few recordings published in his most productive era -- 1970-1974 -- should be no indication of the importance of this work in the realm of avant-garde jazz. This 1971 live recording comes highly recommended to fans of improvised music with nerves of steel.
