AllMusic Review by

Jade Muse is a solid best-of that reflects Oregon's groundbreaking recording career with Vanguard. The albums they released at that time, from Music of Another Present Era, Winter Light, Distant Hills, Violin, Together (with Larry Coryell and Elvin Jones), Friends, and In Concert defined the group as a force in the new instrumental music that wound together various elements from jazz, classical, and world traditions with free improvisation. All of these recordings were made with the late Collin Walcott, who played not only Indian percussion but sitar and tamboura as well. The group's other original members are Ralph Towner, Glen Moore, and Paul McCandless. Standout cuts here are "Silence of a Candle," "North Star," "Brujo," and "Ann Arbor."
