AllMusic Review by

Dutton Vocalion presents a grab bag of pop vocal encrusted British dance band records cut by Jack Hylton's orchestra for the HMV record label between the years 1935 and 1939. In addition to several marvels of ingenuity such as "Life Begins at Oxford Circus," "Run Rabbit Run" (featuring silly Arthur Askey!), "Girls Were Made to Love and Kiss," "I'll Never Say Never Again(Again)," and the bracingly racist "South American Joe," this compilation contains one of the best recordings Hylton ever presided over. Recorded in 1939, "Darktown Strutters' Ball" features the world's greatest tenor saxophonist, Coleman Hawkins.
