Made in Czechoslovakia with the apparent cooperation of Doc Pomus himself, It's Great to Be Young and in Love is an obscure CD of non-commercial studio and live recordings from 1947-60. The early performances demonstrate Pomus' considerable talents as a white blues shouter following in the footsteps of Big Joe Turner and Wynonie Harris, while the later tracks capture Pomus with and without Mort Shuman while in the process of hashing out songs. The title track is a rough demo of a song in progress that would later evolve into Dion's hit "Teenager in Love." The track-by-track notes by Pomus and selection of ultra-rare private demos make this an historic archival release, but the primitive recordings and incomplete songs are more interesting than enjoyable.
