As any of her fans will tell you, Chapman is at her best in a live, in-concert setting, and one listen to It's About Time reinforces the fact. A powerful vocalist with a gutsy guitar style, Chapman rocks the prison walls with a set filled with the kind of songs that made fans of Jimmy Buffett and author Pat Conroy. But before we go any further, let's give a hearty pat-on-the-back to her excellent band, the Love Slaves. The music moves from the straight-ahead rock & roll of "Betty's Bein' Bad" to the introspective "Girl in a Bubble" and the tender love strains of "Beyond My Wildest Dreams." Chapman's cover of "Jailhouse Rock" is as hot as the cover by Z.Z. Top, and comes mighty close to matching the intinsity of the original Elvis Presley recording.
