AllMusic Review by

The Clancy Brothers paved the way for the American success of The Chieftains, The Dubliners, The Furey Brothers, and others, and their bawdy, almost theatrical approach to Irish folk tunes has now become legendary. This budget Canadian import features no less than 23 famous Irish folk traditional songs, mostly in a reflective or sorrowful vein.

Songs such as "I Wish I Was a Maid Again," "The Irish Girl," and "The Dark-Eyed Gypsy" revolve around love's destruction, while songs such as "All Around the Loney O" and "Early, Early All in the Spring" revolve around death. In a moving and poetic album, the Clancy Brothers & David Hammond bring together tales of human pain that will arouse even the most jaded of hearts.
