Guitar virtuoso Bill Peck is one of many musicians in the hard rock genre that makes his living off of instrumental guitar compositions. On Internal Flames, he finds himself jumping back and forth between complicated rockers that showcase his speed and slow moving ballads. The ballads are the better songs on the album, featuring his blistering style and Joe Satriani-style arrangements. The rockers are much more forgettable; even with all the remarkable playing talent it still comes off as generic and overly flashy. Still, Peck can play, and fans of this aspect of hard rock will probably find themselves enjoying the intense leads and ignoring the pedestrian music that backs it up.
