Who needs vocals? Or so this Richmond, VA-based instrumental trio might ask. While there've been scores of groups doing ska, surf, and lounge/Morricone stuff that have forgone the human voice, King Sour sounds like a loud mid-'80s Midwest post-punk band from the vintage Homestead label days, with its reliance on heavy bass/drums smashing and a sympathetically tough guitar sound. Though one could easily hear scads of promising melodies if they ever do decide to take on a singer -- and Alternative Tentacles' head Jello Biafra has apparently even offered to sign them if they do -- these uncompromising folks retain one's attention. Do you think that's easy?
