AllMusic Review by

On the "Small Black Church" side are two up-tempo songs perfect for the dancefloor, the first of the two featuring a slamming 4/4 percussive rhythm that absolutely stomps. The second of these two songs keeps the tempo high but lets up a bit on the intensity, featuring a horn melody that gets looped throughout the song along with a male vocal sample that sings "I'm gone." The flip side to this record opens with the song "I Feel Joy," which features female vocals doo wopping through the song while Dixon integrates some keyboard and some melodies in the background. "Lake Shore Drive," the second track on this side, is produced by fellow Detroiter Theo Parrish. A female vocalist and some unique percussion drive this excellent song.
