Almost the hardest of all African music to find is the Portuguese-influenced idiom of Angola and Mozambique. This is no street music but the country's top band, using local rhythms and elements ranging from South Africa to the U.S. via Youssou N'Dour (with a good dollop of Portuguese here and there). The results are quite varied, and fresh as well as polished.
