Incantation is a haunting tape produced by Patrick Bernhardt, who gave us Atlantis Angelis earlier this year. The sonorous flutes played by Mendoza are intermingled with hand percussion, vocalizing and chants by Pepe and Brigitte Pellerin, (who also graced Atlantis Angelis), and the effects are not merely moving but often downright mesmerizing. Combining the voice, hand drums and flute may bring to mind R. Carlos Nakai from his Sundance Season or Desert Dance releases, but the locale of Incantation is mostly in the heart of the Amazon forest, and the mystical feeling of this region is conveyed through the use of the various flutes, including shakuhachi on two cuts and pan pipes on others. A powerful listening experience is yours with this music, poised to penetrate the very essence of your being with its imaginative and unique magic. Incantation is a wonderful companion tape to one of 1990's most outstanding titles, Atlantis Angelis.
