AllMusic Review by

Christopher Young embraces elements of jazz, R&B, and hip-hop to bring to life the urban milieu of In Too Deep, creating a brooding, potently atmospheric crime score that eschews conventional thriller tropes in favor of a more contemporary, street-smart sound. Largely forgoing traditional orchestral sensibilities, Young instead employs moody electronics and thumping rhythms seemingly ripped from the R&B Top 40. To his credit, his appropriation of distinctively black musical idioms feels genuine and natural, with none of the ham-fisted gracelessness one might expect from other Hollywood composers.
