AllMusic Review by

There are literally hundreds of Ellington collections available, but to its credit, In the Mood With Duke Ellington manages to collect ten tracks from the golden 1940s Blanton-Webster era of Ellington and his orchestra. Not all of the selections are Ellington's most memorable, but a few of his biggest hits are here, including "Take the "A" Train," "Do Nothin' Till You Hear From Me," "I Didn't Know About You," and "I Got It Bad (And That Ain't Good." Novices and gift-buyers take note: While other collections may be more involved, they probably aren't as affordable as this one, making it a good introduction to a composer and bandleader whose sheer output is so massive that picking an entry point can be a daunting task.
