Anyone looking for the original hit versions of such C&C Music Factory hits "Gonna Make You Sweat," "Here We Go" and "Things That Make You Go Hmmmm..." will have to stick with the group's debut album, since neither the 1995 compilation Ultimate or Sony Music Special Products' budget-priced 1996 sequel, In the Groove, fills the bill. In the Groove does suffer because of its budget-line origins, since budget-line discs by nature don't contain all the hits, but it's nevertheless discouraging to get just one big hit -- the radio mix of "Things That Make You Go Hmmmm..." -- on the ten-track collection. Sure, having the radio mix of "Pride (In the Name of Love)" is nice, but the rest of the collection contains album cuts of varying interest, especially since they're not as effective when separated from the original albums. As a result, In the Groove is a bit muddled, appealing neither to hardcore fans, who already have this material, or to the casual fans who want the hits. Perhaps next time a C&C compilation will be executed properly...
