Mary Fettig is a fine alto saxophonist who's played with Stan Kenton and Marian McPartland and studied with Phil Woods, yet her opportunites to record have been sporadic. This out-of-print LP marks her debut as a leader, her solid tone and consistent swinging approach clearly show promise. With Marian McPartland, Ray Brown, Jeff Hamilton and guitarist Peter Sprague to back her, she's clearly inspired. Her lively, samba-flavored "Danza" and lyrical flute on "Alice In Wonderland" are among the many fine tracks. Mary Fettig deserves greater exposure and to have this enjoyable release reissued.
