In Concert 1982 Review

by William Ruhlmann

The European Immortal label here licenses the audio portion of a Fleetwood Mac home video chronicling their stand at the Forum in Inglewood, CA, in October 1982 on their tour promoting the Mirage album. Just like at a concert, the sound starts out a little rough on the first couple of tracks, but clears up as the engineers get a handle on the acoustics. A couple of Mirage tracks appear early on ("Gypsy," "Love in Store") and one later ("Eyes of the World"), but otherwise the songs come from Fleetwood Mac's trio of previous hit albums, Fleetwood Mac, Rumours, and Tusk. Singer/guitarist Lindsey Buckingham makes a showcase out of "Not That Funny," stretching it out to nearly 11 minutes. The crowd reacts most favorably to hits like "Rhiannon" and "Go Your Own Way," of course, but the band also insists on including more ponderous efforts such as "Tusk." The set list isn't quite a greatest-hits collection, and the performances aren't as polished as usual for Fleetwood Mac, but this is a good representation of the band at the end of what William Hogeland's liner notes refer to as "their greatest period."
