This is an interesting 10" EP by Colin Andrew Sheffield. His ambient, diaphanous piece lingers somewhere between sound art and relaxation. The listener could be lured into believing it is the result of sound sculpture playing. The "artificial" nature of the sounds cuts through just enough to remind listeners that Sheffield, after all, is an electronician. The lush textures recall the soft side of Illusion of Safety, or Brume and PBK's ambient work. There is one flaw: The conclusion of each side shows too much of a desire to conclude. A gentle fade-out might have worked better. The sleeve presents an assemblage of words like lines escaped from separate poems by Ilex Fenusova, a nice complement from which listeners are free to fantasize associations while wrapped in Sheffield's haze. Pressed on clear vinyl for the fetishists.
