The Laserlight label has issued a series of John Lee Hooker albums that's among the more commendable of recent years. Seemingly picking performances of the early years of his career (to avoid copyright issues), this album collects many great performances, thematically similar and hugely enjoyable for the listener. Of course, it does not compete with the magisterial The Legendary Modern Recordings and the liner notes are thin and rather uninformative, but as a budget option, it's one of the finer collections available.
