A whole album of "mama" songs. A good idea, but the selections could have been better. Etta James' "Tell Mama," and Ko Ko Taylor's "Come To Mama" are smokers but they don't fit, as the mama in those songs refers to a man's woman, not his mother. However, more appropriate songs by the Intruders, Maze, Soloman Burke, Shirley Caesar and others, make up for the less than appropriate tracks. Major Lance's tender "That's What Mama Say," Arthur Prysock's "My Mother's Eyes," Buddy Guy's bluesy "My Mother," and the Intruders' "I'll Always Love My Mama," are as good as it gets.
