One of the greatest hard rock bands of all time, AC/DC are paragons of riff-heavy, no-frills rock & roll. But what if Angus Young had been a plaintive singer/songwriter instead of a rebellious guitar hero? This is the question that gets answered on If You Want Strum, You've Got It: The Acoustic Tribute to AC/DC. Stripping away all the overdriven thrills of the legendary Australian band's original work, the album recasts AC/DC's elemental rock as moody, bluesy folk tunes that would feel more at home at a coffeehouse than an arena. Given the inherent grime and cockiness of the original, this kinder, gentler re-creation of AC/DC will feel a little too close to uncanny valley territory for fans of the band, who might have a hard time resolving the otherworldliness of "You Shook Me All Night Long" being earnestly performed as an acoustic ballad.
