If I Could Be with You Review

by Scott Yanow

Peggy Lee is the main star during the two radio shows heard on this collector's LP from 1986. The first show finds her backed by the Russ Case Orchestra; clarinetist Benny Goodman is the featured guest on the instrumental "Clarinade" and plays behind Lee's vocal on "Toodle-Lee-Oo-Doo." The later show finds the singer joined by Sonny Burke's Orchestra and welcoming trombonist Tommy Dorsey, who plays a medley of his hits. Peggy Lee sounds fine on the standards, particularly during "If I Could Be with You," "Just One More Chance," and "The Lady Is a Tramp"; her fans will want this album.
