Icon 2 Review

by Andy Kellman

Between 2005’s two-disc Gold compilation and 2009’s five-disc Unlimited box set, Universal Music Distribution appeared to be through with Barry White. In 2010, however, they made him part of their Icon series in two forms. Icon is a 12-track, single-disc compilation, while this -- Icon 2 -- expands the overview to two discs and 24 tracks. Between these two discs, there are over 50 minutes of dead space, so the set still has the presentation of a budget anthology. This is not preferable to Gold, which goes deeper without sacrificing quality. Some of the cuts here that are not featured on the single-disc version include “I’ve Got So Much to Give,” “Staying Power,” “Playing Your Game, Baby,” and “You See the Trouble with Me.”
