This brief set of Jimmy "Fast Fingers" Dawkins recordings was done in Chicago in 1975, one of his prime years as a bandleader. The members of the group prove the worth of the material: Jimmy Johnson, Sylvester Boines, and Tyrone Centuray, true mainstays of the great Chicago scene that was beginning to eclipse as Dawkins led the pack as an aspiring young talent. Andrew "Big Voice" Odom helps out on the burning set closer, "Are You Ready," which lasts for nearly 12 minutes, but there are other notable cuts as well, including the guitarist's own "Way She Walks" and "I've Been Mistreated." There is a stunning read of B.B. King's "Rock Me Baby" to boot. In all, this is as good as it gets; snag it.
