After serving as a member of the Tymes and co-writing the Inner Life disco hit "Caught Up (In a One Night Love Affair)" in the late 1970s, Gonzalez recorded solo singles for several dance labels in the early 1980s. This festive, catchy number actually features Luther Vandross, at the time a prominent session singer on a number of dance records. Gonzalez herself wrote and produced the track, which is notable for its complex vocal arrangements, insinuating percussion, and jazzy chords. Far ahead of many generic disco tunes of the time, "Hunger" pulsates along with strong, live instrumentation and freshly crafted musical arrangements, with the singer's sultry, soulful pipes completing a most delicious recipe.
