AllMusic Review by

Bassist Red Mitchell and tenor saxophonist Warne Marsh teamed up several times in the 1980s including for this duet album. Rather than disguise the song titles (a practice that Marsh had learned from Lennie Tristano), the duo performs straightforward yet exploratory renditions of eight standards, plus Mitchell's original "Undertow." Marsh in particular was in prime form during the era, and although the session would have been a bit more exciting if a third musician (piano, guitar or drums) had been added, since the sound is pretty constant throughout the date, the results are quite musical and creative.
