The English collectors' label Halcyon (not to be mistaken for Marian McPartland's record company of the same name) put together a very interesting collection of rare hot dance-band performances for this LP. Jan Garber is heard in 1927 when the future sweet bandleader headed a respectable jazz outfit. In addition there are numbers by a variety of obscure groups including the Seattle Harmony Kings, Howard Lanin's Ben Franklin Dance Orchestra, Charles Dornberger (a hot version of "Tiger Rag"), Blue Steele and Jacques Renard's Cocoanut Grove Orchestra. 1920s collectors will want this album.
