AllMusic Review by

This CD brings together some of the greats in the electric blues idiom -- musicians who are worthy of the title "Hoodoo Blues Man" because they certainly know how to cast a spell with the blues. The CD title refers to the signature tune and groundbreaking CD of the inimitable blues harpist Junior Wells, along with guitar master Buddy Guy. The tune is included in the outstanding array of blues selections on the album. Among the stellar cast of contributors are John Lee Hooker, Pinetop Perkins, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Joe Carter, the Paul deLay Band, Lacy Gibson Sunnyland Slim, Roy Gains & the Crusaders, Carey Bell, and Sonny Boy Williamson. "Bye Bye Bird," "Goin' Down Slow," "Down at the Grocery Store," and "Hell of a Night" are among the gritty blues performed. Other standout tunes include Tommy Tucker's "Tell Me Who's Wrong," Byther Smith's "You Ought to Be Ashamed," and a great rendition of "Johnny B. Goode" by U.P. Wilson and Paul Orta & the Kingpins. Clarence Edwards gets down on "Rocky Mountains" and Big Walter Horton waxes philosophical on "That Ain't It." Every cut on the recording is a gem.
