While most people who purchase a CD sampler are usually somewhat familiar with some of the artists on it, there are always a few surprises. Much of the material on here is standard pop-punk, Fat Wreck Chords-type fare. Therefore, if the listener is familiar with the California pop-punk sound, this should be a very comfortable listen for the most part. This CD contains such acts as Teen Idols, Squirtgun, and Dance Hall Crashers, with each delivering their own music filled with strong hooks and melodies. There were a few standouts among the 19 tracks. Nerf Herder's "Vivian" is an '80s new wave song with punk rhythms that hold it all together; Fabulous Disaster is four women who can sing and harmonize pretty well and also have a tough biker angle. Inspection 12's steady, upbeat guitar work totally embodies much of the melodic rock of the '80s and Citizen Fish pulls off a track with a killer, catchy chorus from their Life Size album. All in all, for the (most likely) reduced price, this is certainly worth looking into for fans of pop-punk who may not be entirely familiar with these acts but need a place to start.
