Los Evangelistas are a Granada indie rock supergroup formed in 2011 by members of Los Planetas and Lagartija Nick with the sole purpose of honoring the music of the late great flamenco cantaor Enrique Morente. Morente was, of course, an instrumental figure in bringing flamenco and avant-garde rock together, so a tribute like this is as fitting as it is rewarding. Los Evangelistas transport Morente's compositions to goth/industrial/noise rock territory with stunning results, the existential anguish of flamenco coming through in solemn, dirge-like waves of feedback and distortion. The album was produced by Killing Joke's Martin "Youth'' Glover and features vocal contributions by Morente's daughter Soleá and Carmen Linares. The special edition CD adds two books with interviews, photos, texts, and illustrations by recognized writers and artists.
