AllMusic Review by

Similar in derivation to Rhino's Golden Throat series, this compilation is the audio companion to the book of the same name or vice versa. It collects up 18 performances by celebrities whose appearances in front of a microphone were far better served by doing something other than singing. Starting with the beyond inept yelping of Bette Davis on "Turn Me Loose On Broadway" with stops along the way to sample Robert Mitchum's calypso turn on "What's This Generation Coming To," the Brady Bunch's sickly sweet version of the Beatles' "Love Me Do," and Joe Pesci's "Got To Get You Into My Life," this compilation heads into territory not previously delved into by the Rhino sets. While tracks like Joe E. Ross' "Ooh Ooh," Steve Allen's "How's Your Sister," and Dennis Weaver's "Chicken Mash" are clearly novelty fodder, Raquel Welch's "I'm Ready To Groove" and Anthony Quinn's "What Is Love?" are deadly in earnest, making them even funnier, which is the whole point, isn't it?
