Jumprope's Holiday in Brazil once again highlights Cindy Goh's precisely sweet vocals and bass, Noelle Boc's voice and guitar work, Tom Evans' steady drumming and backup vocals, and Ad Boc's guitar and vocals. It's refreshing to hear a band who trades vocal duties so seamlessly. The Boston band's debut on Spain's Mushroom Pillow Records compiles previously released tracks, a sort of "greatest-hits-so-far" collection. Songs are procured from the Suitcase and Umbrella EP, Bookshelf Adventures, the Pensive EP, and the No Happy Songs EP. The 13 songs highlight the band's gleeful pop sound mixed with the occasional bossa nova, all with a melodic foundation. All of the songs are short, with none clocking in at four minutes. Highlights include a cover of the Free Design's "Kites Are Fun," the jangly coolness of "That's the Way It Goes," the upbeat and jazzy "Miss Mullaney," Coh's vocal range on "Sister," and the duet on the title track, "Holiday in Brazil." The band's fondness for children's books and clean pop hooks remains evident.
