Holiday Favorites With the Christmas All-stars is a good idea in theory: take several of the top singers from the last century and their best Christmas songs and put it on one album. Unfortunately, the execution is terribly sloppy on this 11-song collection. The recording quality dips and rises from song to song. Where it may seem like an excellent idea to include Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby singing "The Christmas Song," the recording is so awful and scratchy that it completely takes away the value of pairing the two singers. In fact, a good portion of this album sounds muddy and scratchy, including otherwise good cuts by Louis Armstrong and Luciano Pavarotti. It is that lack of quality that makes this album as bad as it is. The songs are fine, but when the recording quality suffers, the whole album suffers. Needless to say, there are much better sounding collections available, and this should be avoided despite the promising lineup of musicians.
