Hits of the 70's [Madacy Box] Review

by Andy Kellman

Instant deal-breaker, stated in small print on the front: "New stereo recordings by the original artists." If that wasn't enough to turn you away, only ten songs are included on each of the three discs that make up this box set, which leaves at least an hour-and-a-half of empty space. To very little surprise, none of the new recordings are preferable to the original versions, but here's a short roll call of what you'll hear if you do happen to take the dangerous plunge: A Taste of Honey's "Boogie Oogie Oogie," Freda Payne's "Band of Gold," Badfinger's "Come and Get It," Stephen Bishop's "On and On," Andrea True's "More, More, More," Rare Earth's "Get Ready," Atlanta Rhythm Section's "So Into You." Even if these discs did happen to include the original versions, the set would be far too scattered stylistically to warrant recommendation.
