Hits of the 1950's, Vol. 2 looks like a pretty decent, if short, compilation of rock, country, and pop tracks. Usually any disc with songs by the Drifters and the Coasters, not to mention Carl Perkins and Jimmy Witherspoon, is bound to be a winner. Unfortunately, the record is made up of modern re-recordings of classic songs like Maurice Williams' "Stay" and Lloyd Price's "Stagger Lee." The vocals in most cases are fairly rough, the backing music is always sterile and uninteresting, and the whole concept flat out stinks. The entire collection is nothing but a semicleverly disguised rip-off designed to part unsuspecting fans of the oldies from their hard-earned cash. Steer clear from this disc and anything that includes lame re-recordings.
