AllMusic Review by

The British double-disc retrospective Hits and Heroes does a better than average job of presenting the Stranglers' best-known singles and evolving sound as a relatively concise, yet deep, collection. Disc one covers "Get a Grip (On Yourself)," "Walk on By," "Hanging Around," "Golden Brown," "Duchess," and the other usual suspects, and also includes the videos for "No More Heroes," "Golden Brown," and "Duchess." Disc two includes alternate edits of "Peaches" and "No More Heroes," as well as their Celia & the Mutations singles "Mony Mony" and "Mean to Me." "The Meninblack (Waiting for 'Em)," "Fools Rush Out," "Tomorrow Was Hereafter," and "Yellowcage UFG" are some of the disc's other highlights. Overall, Hits and Heroes is an entertaining overview of the Stranglers' late-'70s/early-'80s output and is worth seeking out.
