AllMusic Review by

L.A. producer Cool Dre has compiled a group of unreleased tracks by major artists with a definite West Coast hip-hop flavor. The late Tupac Shakur provides the album's highlight with "Throw Your Hands Up," while Layzie Bone of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Master P -- two decidedly non-West Coast artists -- also make contributions. And, of course, no album of G-funk would be complete without hearing from N.W.A. frontmen Ice Cube and Dr. Dre. Cool Dre also makes time for up-and-comers like Kreatures of Habit and Goldie and Boogy. At a time when the South and the East Coast were dominating hip-hop charts, it is nice to hear some of that West Coast vibe for a change. Still, the offerings on Hits 4 the New Millennium are strictly leftovers, and fans really craving some G-funk could serve themselves better by looking elsewhere.
