Like so many of the big names of the '40s, Morales went from enormous popularity to total oblivion. Which is a major pity, since he was very important in the early days of New York salsa as a main creator of a quintet style that blended jazz with classic Cuban piano. This late-period album documents both the brillance and the prolixity of a musician long overdue for a reassessment.
