Himavat is a deep electro-tribal CD from ambient drone king Mathias Grassow. It is a huge atmospheric offering with deep drones and ethnic rhythms to balance the soundscapes. As with most of Grassow's works, it is easy to get caught up in and to focus on the drone. To do so is to ignore his sound design and mixing skills. On this disc, Klaus Wiese, Grassow's friend and frequent collaborator, contributes singing bowls. The mix puts everything on the right levels. All of the pieces complement each other and the atmosphere's density becomes the focus. There are no missing pieces; Grassow has put it all together and created a complete picture. This CD will appeal to fans of Robert Rich, Alio Die, Lustmord, and Vidna Obmana. For fans of electronic minimalism, it is essential. For casual fans, it is a good disc.
