Highway to Hanno's Review

by Nitsuh Abebe

Highway to Hanno's slips fully into a mid-'80s post-punk sound, but with a few interesting additions -- saxophone, violin, and trumpet crop up around the guitar slices and jangles, crooning vocals abound, and, on tracks like "Pig Farmer's Daughter," the result could almost be compared to something like the Smiths or Echo and the Bunnymen. All of this dark, mid-'80s Britpop jangling serves the band well -- the connection never seems very obvious, and Highway to Hanno's comes across as something rather original.
