All the music in this four-volume series is by the Bolivian group Aymaran, who specialize in the most primal form of Andean music. Deep bass drums pound out the rhythms, accompanied by various shakers and rattles, while charangos and pan flutes sketch out atmospheric melodies, sometimes enhanced by the sound of the wind swirling in the background. The tempos are slower, the pitch deeper, and the melodies more impressionistic than the more familiar Andean music. Start with Vol. 4 and work your way back, or check out one of the newer titles in the series.
