Expanding their melodic metalcore sound, For the Fallen Dreams return with a more nuanced take on the genre on their fifth album, Heavy Hearts. While the band still indulges in plenty of brutal breakdowns, it feels like they've expanded the emotional core of their sound, adding a new dynamic to help break up the crunching monotony by letting the songs open up and take a break from the constant barrage of low-end chugging. That said, the evolution of the band's sound isn't too radical, and old fans looking for more of the band's vigorous and intense sonic violence will be more than satisfied by the offerings here.
