This exotic Steven Halpern album, with many guest artists, predates the ethnic fusion/shamanic ritual trend by many years. Hear to Eternity opens with the title track, a spacy Middle Eastern drone that seems locked in a time warp. The Moroccan trend continues with the hypnotic "Rivers of Memories." Halpern plays a number of synthesizers plus electric guitar, which wails and dances above the camel lop drone. "Solice" offers extended plateaus of sound (with space blips), while "Hendrix in Dreamland" encores Halpern as Jimi, reincarnated. Very smooth! Guest artists include Victor Spiegel (percussion and bamboo flute), Dallas Smith (the mysterious Lyricon Wind Synthesizer), Tony Selvage (electric blues violin), Georgia Kelly (concert harp), Richard Horowitz (Moroccan oblique flute), and Beira Almeida and Corpo Santo Band (Brazilian percussion). Most tracks from side one are hypnotic, but not the gentler relaxation. The tracks on side two seem to be taken from other Halpern albums, which makes it an excellent sampler.
