AllMusic Review by

Mixing country, rock, and soul is a pretty good idea, and when Bobby Bridger did it back in 1981 it was a fairly new idea. On the best tracks from Heal in the Wisdom the Nashville vocals and cooking horn section merge wonderfully. The weak point here is the lyrics; when Bridger is writing straight love songs he is quite capable, but when he tries to express mystical ideas he lapses into new age incoherence. The album has worn fairly well because the musicianship and Bridger's warm voice are strong. If he had found a lyricist to match his performance and arranging skills, Bridger could have gone far.
