Not a Hawkwind album per se, this collection of 13 tracks by 13 different bands nevertheless epitomizes the vast influence that Hawkwind have had on the underground U.K. music scene of the past two decades, as former members and proud acolytes alike emerge to run through their personal vision of what the parent band means to them. Key attractions in terms of name recognition are probably Astralasia and Hawkwind alumnus Huw Lloyd-Langton's Broken Bits Band. But cuts from Proteus, Tribe of Cro, Bruise, Mr. Quimby's Beard, and more all demand that you investigate deeper into their individual canons, while the occasional cover (One Eyed Bishops' closing take on "Hurry on Sundown," Astralasia's startling vision of "Uncle Sam's on Mars") are as bright as anything Hawkwind themselves might manage these days.
