By combining second looks at Harold Arlen and Vernon Duke into a single volume of his Revisited series, Ben Bagley suggested that he had largely mined out the composers on their respective first volumes. This turned out not to quite be the case (and didn't keep him from coming up with a third Duke volume), but this is one of the weaker numbers in the series, full of excellent performances by such singers as Sandy Duncan, Dolores Gray, and Tammy Grimes of songs that were more deservedly unknown than some of the ones rediscovered on the other Revisited albums. There were elements of the musical characters of both composers, and especially for Arlen fans a glimpse into his later years in the five songs added for the CD reissue. But less fanatical show music fans might stick with the first volumes.
