It's pretty difficult to find a Bob Wills recording that doesn't please. Although there are some flaws with this CD, it is no exception to the rule. Because the source material was recordings from the radio, sound quality is not as good as one would want. The flipside of this is chance to hear the spontaneity and banter of the band playing "live". Even the excellent Tiffany Transcriptions don't capture that as fully as this recording. An added plus is the chance to hear the band work out on "Mama Inez," which is pretty far afield from the usual soil the Texas Playboys tilled. One hears the band late in its career and the absence of Tommy Duncan in particular is keenly felt, but you can still witness the power of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys in this recording.
