AllMusic Review by

The fourth installment of Rhino's Hard Rock Records series, Hard Rock Cafe: '80s Heavy Metal is a fine collection of familiar heavy metal and hard rock from the glitzy '80s. There are a few album cuts and forgotten singles that never reached classic status -- Zebra's "Who's Behind the Door?," Rainbow's "Since You Been Gone," Krokus' "Midnite Maniac," Anthrax's "Indians" -- but for the most part, this is familiar stuff, and the disc is all the better for it. Face it, the Hard Rock Cafe celebrates the familiar, not the forgotten, and there's nothing more familiar than "Once Bitten, Twice Shy," "You've Got Another Thing Comin'," "Nothin' But a Good Time," "We're Not Gonna Take It," "Here I Go Again," "Seventeen," "Wait," "Kiss Me Deadly," "Lay It Down," and "Big Bottom" when it comes to '80s metal. And that means that if you're looking for a hard-rocking nostalgia trip, this is an excellent choice.
