Few composers elicit the kind of instant recognition that director John Carpenter does. His stark, synth-based melodies, strict adherence to tension-filled atmosphere, and reliance on a mere handful of keyboard sounds have become inseparable from his films. As with much of his work in the '80s (Escape from New York, Christine), Carpenter and Alan Howarth’s score for Halloween III: Season of the Witch feels both ground breaking and dated. Being a non-Michael Myers film, the iconic theme for the original Halloween does not appear, but this limited-edition package with its slick packaging and complete score (including previously unreleased material) is filled with enough classic Carpenter dread and humor to warrant a prime spot in any soundtrack/horror junkie’s collection.
